What parts of President Obama’s stimulus package are responsible for the economy improving?
President Obama has received and accepted responsibility for the economy improving so which parts of his stimulus package or what actions did he take that caused the economy to improve?
The vast majority of the economic stimulus package of 2009 has not even taken effect. Half of the spending doesn’t start until the 2010 fiscal year and most of the rest will be spent during the summer. How is this creating jobs and stimulating the economy?
ITS THAT GUY: You seem to be saying that the money spent during Bush’s last days for the banks and auto companies was the catalyst along with Obama being able to instill confidence that things would get better. Bush could never have instilled that confidence so Obama was important but was the economic stimulus package even necessary then?
IAMCT01: I have no problem understanding the purpose but question if it is really what is causing the effect.
Part of it is to get more money circulating through the economy. Keep big banks and auto companies afloat (unfortunately protecting them from their own greed, incompetence, and mismanagement–but this is a situation Obama inherited).
The other part is restoring people’s faith in the economy. If people believe things will get better, they will. This is why presidents of both parties tend to minimize recessions when they talk about them. “This is nothing,” they say, “We’ll be getting better any day now.”
Obama has been fairly successful in convincing the majority of the American Public that he’s working hard to fix the recession. Plus, I think people were just really tired of Bush, are just relieved that we have a new president with a new and different plan. Before the election, 70% of Americans said they believed the country was going in the wrong direction. Now 60% say they think it’s going in the right direction. This isn’t about any one particular thing Obama did, it’s more a matter of his presidential style. People have confidence in him.
But I think it’s still way too early to judge.
