Veggiedar - 1
*waves*
Still alive! I feel bad for not updating my blog for a while, and it’s not that I have nothing to write about - somehow I just don’t feel like it. I was in HK at the beginning of the month, I will blog about that some other time.
Anyway, this post is a heads up to my fellow vegetarians who live in the Philippines.
The other day I was at Mexicali and ordered their grilled vegetable fajitas, which is under the veggie friendly menu. Out comes my food and my veggiedar starts going off a bit. I tell myself I’m just being paranoid, but a few bites later, I’m pretty sure that something is wrong.
So I go ask the guy at the counter what sauce they used with the vegetables. And came the reply: Worcestershire sauce. *facepalm*
Yeah. I knew something was fishy.
I don’t know if you know what makes Worcestershire sauce not vegetarian, but Mexicali sure doesn’t. It’s made with anchovies.
I was given a comment card to write my complaint on. If you want to contact Mexicali, you can find their info here.
Eating vegetarian is more than just eating veggies, it’s about knowing what goes into your food and reading ingredients!! Aish.
On the one hand, the experience was disappointing, but on the other hand, I’m glad that my veggiedar picked it up.
Your occasional posts always delivers even though there’s much time delay in between. How was HK? I’m aiming to go there next spring… hopefully I’ll be able to make it even in such a hard economy!!
You are definitely one knowledgeable vegetarian!! I try to be but meat still gets the best of me.
OMG YOU WERE IN HK? THAT IS SO COOL. I LIVE THERE PERMANENTLY! *acts all Hong Kong-ey*
That sucks that you accidentally consumed meaty stuff
That’s amazing that your veggiedar (whatever that is, because I don’t know) picked it up, though
Amazing ability! You should audition for Heroes (the BEST TV show in the world!).
I haven’t been to HK for a long time; I love the vegetarian foods there, especially the crispy noodles. Yum!
But darn that Mexicali! One of my vegetarian friends from college suggested that we eat there on her birthday party, and it was a good thing we ended up eating elsewhere. Being served un-vegetarian foods under my radar (which happened a few times) always make me feel queasy. You did not get sick after this experience, did you?
@Destiny: It was great! =]
@Eunice: LOLS.
@Nightdreamer: No, I didn’t get sick. Where did you guys eat, BTW?
Dulcinea, which we later found out to be a very vegetarian-unfriendly place. The only “food” I can eat there are salads.
